We want everybody who wants to run or walk outdoors to be able to do so safely, so Gord’s is committed to ensuring there is always a group to join. Whether you’ve got years of running experience, or are just starting out and looking to connect with like-minded folks, join our free, drop-in run groups, Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm, and Saturday mornings at 8:30 am, in front of the store, regardless of the weather. Statutory holidays excepted. All abilities are welcome, walkers, too.
Run With Gord’s Tuesday evening schedule: Week 1: fartlek workout, Week 2: tempo workout, Week 3: hills, Week 4: HIIT workout (high-intensity interval workout), occasional Week 5: freestyle.
Run With Gord’s Saturday mornings at 8:30 am sharp: run or walk options for short, medium and long distances. Need a reason to get out of bed? The run/walk on the 1st Saturday of every month finishes with a treat!
In Calgary, or a little further afield, 5 km or ultra-marathon, our team at Gord’s can point you in the right direction. Wanting to join a club? Training for a new distance? Test your map-reading skills while running? Or trying your first trail run? The team at Gord’s Running Store team have oodles of knowledge and experience and are happy to answer any questions you may have to help you thrive in or expand your running and fitness world.
Actively involved in the local running and fitness community, Gord’s Running Store has been organizing and sponsoring races, community and charity events for over 35 years. The Alberta Wilderness Association’s Adventures for Wilderness program has long been a beneficiary of Gord’s support. Gord’s is a gold sponsor of Sinister Sports’s Castle Alpine Trail Race, and has proudly sponsored the IronLegs Mountain Races since their inception. Gord’s is a committed supporter of the Banff Jasper Relay, and Survivorfest Events in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Gord’s Frozen Ass 50 Race, a 50 km ultramarathon race in the dead of winter along Calgary’s Nose Creek pathway, is on hiatus for 2026, as we work on plans to return in 2027. Conceived as an antidote to the annual December holiday season’s over-indulgence, this race pre-dates the inception of Gord’s Running Store, and has endured through extreme weather, and a pandemic, and will return in 2027. So, please stay tuned.
Shoe donations: bring us your used running shoes, and we’ll donate them to the Calgary Mustard Seed. Every year we bring almost 1000 donated runners to folks who can use them.
